Yungblud has released a new in-your-face, retro-themed video for his single “Happier,” which features Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes.

Filmed in Tokyo, the music video showcases the two artists yelling at the top of their lungs to karaoke lyrics, playing arcade machines, and rocking out on a crowded dance floor.

“Happier” is a chaotic, yet cathartic release compared to the artist’s “Hated,” which takes a darker turn. “Hated” looks at the lasting trauma Yungblud experienced following alleged sexual abuse as a child. In the music video, a black liquid trickles down his face as he pours out dark truths from his life.

In “Happier,” the 26-year-old seems just that: cheesing and chucking a peace sign as he head bangs to the hyper rock beat.

“If I could tell you how I feel/I know that you’re still hurting too,” Yungblud shouts. “No I’m not broken/I’m just scared to belong here, scared to be happier.”

The upbeat visual, directed by Masaki Watanabe, marks Yungblud’s second collaboration with Sykes following Bring Me The Horizon’s 2020 single “Obey.” The two artists have spent the fall touring Asia, with stops in Seoul, South Korea; Tokyo, Japan; Manila, Philippines; Singapore; and Bangkok, Thailand.

The 2018 breakout artist kickstarted his year with bass-heavy “Lowlife,” followed by the emotionally fueled “Hated” in August. In September 2022, he released his third album, Yungblud. The 12-track LP is a “whirlwind listen, fusing together building blocks of various rock subgenres — mostly Britpop’s hip-shaking carnality and emo’s on-the-brink wails — then spit-shining them a bit before adding confessional lyrics,” as described in a Rolling Stone review.
